Wisconsin had an estimated 5,972,787 residents in July 2025, up 1.3% from the April 2020 base, a modest rise. With slow local growth, the most promising new customers are often outside the state: distributors, trade buyers and consumers who order online.
The 2023 count found 144,774 employer establishments with 2,642,958 employees. Most employers here are small operations: 83.1% of employer establishments in the state had fewer than 20 employees. Wisconsin had 18,044 retail trade establishments and 11,680 professional, scientific and technical services establishments in 2023. The SBA counts 497,370 small businesses providing 48% of employment.
For manufacturers and food producers, product data, catalogs and ordering tools usually deserve more attention than a generic brochure site. For retailers, the priority is local search and a store that lets nearby customers check stock before they make the trip.
