Farm output gives Minnesota reach well beyond its borders. The Department of Employment and Economic Development reports that the state ranks fourth in the nation for total crop value and fourth for agricultural exports. Producers, processors and agribusiness suppliers therefore sell to distant buyers, often through distributors who expect product data and documentation to be online and current.
Closer to home, Minnesota's 154,455 employer establishments were split fairly evenly between selling goods and selling know how: 17,727 retail trade establishments and 16,218 professional, scientific and technical services establishments in 2023, with 84.5% of all establishments having fewer than 20 employees. A shop needs findable products and accurate hours; a consultancy needs proof of expertise that a prospect can assess before the first meeting.
With an estimated 5,830,405 residents in July 2025, up 2.2% from the 2020 base, most opportunity lies in winning a larger share of existing demand rather than waiting for new customers.
