Shops outnumber consultancies in New Hampshire: the 2023 count found 5,706 retail trade establishments and 3,699 professional, scientific and technical services establishments. In a compact market where customers can visit several competitors in one afternoon, a retailer's product pages, stock information and business profile often do more than an advertising budget.
Small firms dominate the count. In 2023, New Hampshire had 39,298 employer establishments. 85.1% of those establishments had fewer than 20 employees. The SBA's broader tally of 145,314 small businesses, which includes firms without employees, accounts for 50.3% of employment. Owners at that size usually buy marketing themselves and want to know what each piece of work will change.
New Hampshire had an estimated 1,415,342 residents in July 2025, and the resident population rose 2.7% from the 2020 base. Steady local demand is the baseline to plan around, while visitors and buyers in other states are the room for growth.
